При ловле голавля в разгар лета болонской удочкой важно точно определить место, куда выходит кормиться эта рыба. В зависимости от выбора места применяются та или иная оснастка, тактика проводки и насадка.

Удочкой ловить голавля даже там, где его много, не так просто, как может показаться. В середине лета я чаще всего ловлю «лобастого» на таких притоках Оки, как Упа, Осётр, Угра. Здесь для голавля имеется хорошая кормовая база, неплохие просторы для нагула и обычно всегда есть много укрытий по берегам в виде кустов, склонённых или упавших в воду деревьев. На больших реках, таких как Ока или Волга, удочкой ловить голавля труднее — здесь он чаще бывает в прилове, когда я ловлю на донки леща на мелководных каменистых грядах.
Голавль — рыба сильно реагирующая на изменение погодных условий и освещённости, поэтому в течение суток он может не один раз поменять места стоянки и охоты. Тёплым ярким днём он предпочитает кормиться на мелководье или плавает стайками у поверхности воды, хватая упавших на воду насекомых. Но когда чуть холодает и исчезают насекомые, он опускается в нижние слои воды. От этого зависит выбор насадки и оснастки. Летом «голавлятники» практикуют ловлю на насадки, плавающие на поверхности воды, в её толще или у дна.
Отправляясь на речку за голавлями, я беру с собой не менее трёх болонских удочек длиной от 5 до 7 м с разными оснастками, ведь часто трудно угадать, как поведёт себя сегодня голавль и где он будет держаться. Ко всем удилищам у меня имеются дополнительные сменные оснастки с поводками разной длины и крючками разных размеров, которые хранятся на мотовильцах в походной сумке.
Летняя ловля голавля ходовая и начинается с раннего утра, когда аппетит этой рыбы повышен, с переменным успехом продолжается в течение дня и снова активизируется к вечеру, особенно перед закатом солнца, когда интенсивнее становится передвижение водных и надводных насекомых.
Наиболее интересной для меня является ловля с поверхности воды на насекомое, когда можно наблюдать повадки рыбы. Насадку я пускаю в «свободный проплыв», то есть ловлю без поплавка. Так как голавль прекрасно видит, приходится делать дальний отпуск насадки. Для этого выбираю такое место для размещения, чтобы вершинкой удилища удавалось дотянуться до быстрого потока, который увлекает насадку вниз по течению. Насекомое при этом привлекательно шевелится и двигается естественно. Иногда голавль неплохо клюёт на корочку белого батона и даже на семечко (крючок продеваю в расщеп кожуры).
На притоках Оки таким способом я люблю ловить в конце быстрин, пуская насадку по краю основного потока на суводь, а также с мостов. В качестве наживки использую овода, большого кузнечика или зелёную стрекозу. Иногда так удаётся ловить и с упавших на воду деревьев. Хорошая июньская наживка — овод (иногда насаживаю сразу два на крючок, так как голавль любит объёмную насадку). Он лучше других насекомых держится на крючке и для голавля привычен, так как по берегам часто пасут скотину. При отпуске более 30 м массы наживки может не хватить, чтобы тащить за собой леску, поэтому выше поводка приходится привязывать малоприметную палочку длиной 4–5 см и толщиной 5 мм. Леска диаметром 0,14–0,18 мм крепится к ней петлёй в круговом вырезе посередине палочки; поводок необязателен. Придержки во время проводки по поверхности воды делать не стоит, так как крупный голавль сразу заподозрит подвох.
С поверхности голавль охотится также в следующих местах:
- вдоль кромки кустов под обрывистым берегом;
- на мелководных перекатах, заросших по всему дну водорослями;
- на перекатах с дном, чистым от водорослей;
- у завалов возле свай и других речных препятствий;
- возле преграды в виде ветвей кустов или упавших на воду деревьев;
- на водоворотах у старых мельниц, в омутах и суводях ниже быстрин;
- в «окнах» среди водных растений;
- в начале ям ниже переката.
На перечисленных акваториях можно ловить голавля обычной болонской оснасткой. На некоторых притоках Оки не раз удавалось удачно ловить с купальных и рыболовных мостков, расположенных между кустами, делая проводку в толще воды и у дна по их кромке.
Выбор проводочной оснастки зависит от глубины ловли и силы течения, при ловле на слабом течении при глубине до 4 м я использую лёгкую оснастку. Если же течение быстрое, то даже при глубине чуть более 1,5 м нередко приходится применять тяжёлую оснастку, чтобы не было холостого проплыва насадки в толще воды (если, конечно, он специально не предусмотрен). Например, для сплошной проводки у дна на быстром или относительно быстром течении при глубине 2,5–3 м я использую поплавки грузоподъёмностью 2,5–4 г с каплевидным телом, длинным тяжёлым килем и неподвижным креплением лески в двух или трёх точках. Поплавок должен быть огружен так, чтобы из воды торчала одна антенна, иначе, почувствовав сопротивление, голавль выплюнет насадку. Огрузка — самая простая, сконцентрированная в одной точке выше поводка. Крючок — № 4–10 в зависимости от насадки.
Но при выборе оснастки бывают и исключения из правил, например, когда находишься в стеснённых для заброса условиях. Так, если участок ловли слева и справа ограничен выступающим из воды кустарником, при этом вода довольно тихая, всё равно приходится утяжелять оснастку, чтобы огрузка с насадкой моментально уходила на дно без холостого проплыва. Впрочем, когда голавль рыщет в толще воды, при проплыве насадки нужно дать ей возможность на всём протяжении проводки свободно планировать ко дну, а в этом случае потребуются более лёгкая снасть и распределённая огрузка.
При ловле на свободном от коряг и водорослей участке чаще всего я применяю длинный, от 25 до 50 см (чем быстрее течение, тем короче), поводок. Это связано с особенностью поклёвки голавля, который хватает насадку на ходу, не останавливаясь, и при такой оснастке не чувствует сопротивления.

Мелководные перекаты, заросшие по всему дну водорослями. Такие протяжённые участки часто встречаются на малых реках. Голавль здесь может клевать и в толще воды. Часто насадку на обычной проводочной оснастке я пускаю прямо по верхушкам водорослей. Оснастка может быть лёгкой или тяжёлой в зависимости от дальности заброса. На мелководных перекатах нередко приходится пользоваться прозрачным водоналивным поплавком, менее заметным для рыбы.
Перекаты с дном, чистым от водорослей. Это ещё одно перспективное место для ловли голавля. Такие участки я часто встречал на Оке, особенно в её верхнем течении. Бывает, что такой перекат почти полностью можно перейти вброд. Для ловли болонской удочкой лучше выбирать участки переката, где на дне есть какие-либо препятствия в виде отдельных валунов или локальные каменистые гряды. Здесь голавль укрывается за крупными камнями, поджидая добычу.
Часто приходится ловить в «забродниках» или вейдерсах, но при этом всё равно нужно забрасывать насадку дальше и выше по течению, для чего потребуется соответствующая снасть. При ловле взабродку к месту жировки голавля всегда нужно подходить против течения.

Но для рыболовов он здесь малодоступен. Я предпочитаю заплывать на лодке выше по течению и пускать оснастку к краю завала по спокойной воде, тогда в любой момент можно её притормозить и выбрать. Способ срабатывает не только в самые ранние часы, пока на мосту не появились рыболовы, но иногда и в полдень, так как под обширными укрытиями плывуна голавль чувствует себя в полной безопасности. Насадку (овода, кузнечика, июньского жука) пускаю по поверхности воды или в её верхнем слое. Предварительно важно убедить голавля в безопасности наживки. Для этого приходится иметь запас насекомых и подбрасывать их маленькими порциями на течение, чтобы они плыли туда, куда надо, и тормозились в нужном месте.

Не раз мне приходилось наблюдать, как с некоторых высоких мостов местные ловят голавля в отвес, используя обыкновенный спиннинг, оснащённый катушкой типа «Невская», надёжной леской и достаточно тяжелой поплавочной оснасткой, которую опускают прямо к краю фундамента опоры и пускают по границе быстрого и медленного течений.
Но поднимать в отвес голавля более 0,5 кг не удаётся, он срывается и, падая с высоты в воду, распугивает всю рыбу. Поэтому и в данном случае я предпочитаю ловить с лодки или взабродку, посылая оснастку вниз по течению. Размещаться нужно так, чтобы насадка плыла точно по краю «быка» на определённой глубине или у дна. Во время придонной проводки можно делать короткие придержки.
Преграды в виде ветвей кустов или упавших на воду деревьев. На малых реках обязательно встречаются изгибы русла, где течение прибивает к какому-нибудь обширному кусту плывун. Сюда же приносится и сносимый по поверхности воды корм. На Зуше, например, я нашёл одну старую упавшую в воду иву, под затопленной кроной которой стоял крупный голавль. Пускать верховую оснастку приходилось с резиновой лодки, заякоривая её выше по течению.
При ловле со дна или в толще воды обычно использую прикормку, чаще всего распаренную пшеницу. При ловле на такую же насадку бывает вполне достаточно подбрасывать в воду зёрна небольшими порциями с учётом их сноса течением. Иногда применяю прикормочную смесь собственного приготовления. Но любая прикормка не должна содержать мелких растительных частиц, которые привлекут мелочь. Обычно за прикормочную основу берут сухари крупного помола, пропущенные через специальную фильерку. Растительные компоненты смешивают с мелкопросеянным береговым грунтом. Такая прикормка эффективна в дождливую погоду.
Кроме пшеницы в толще воды и у дна в эту пору хорошо работают такие насадки, как перловка, катыш хлеба, тесто. Если начало лета было холодным, в июле ещё бывают уловистыми наживки водного происхождения, такие как казара, бабка, ручейник.

Вперемежку попадались крупная плотва и уклейка. Прядь шелковника в качестве насадки при ловле в таких местах хороша тем, что отсекает уклейку и прочую мелкую рыбу. Нужно брать молодые водоросли и насаживать их на крючок петлёй.
Границы быстрого и медленного течений, которые чётко прослеживаются ниже быстрин и плотин, тоже хороши для проводки у дна животных насадок (в том числе пиявки-клепсины) и прядки шелковника. Другие насадки в таких местах работают плохо.
«Окна» среди водорослей. В одном месте на Упе, под Крутой горой, есть обширные отмели с зарослями кувшинок, в которых держатся стайки некрупного и среднего размера голавля. Здесь удавалось успешно ловить взаброс, но после плюханья поплавка на воду обычно приходилось некоторое время ждать, пока рыба успокоится.
Когда на берегу есть укрытия в виде кустарника или высокой осоки, то в кувшинках некрупного голавля можно ловить способом «макания» насадки.
