Кастинговых удилищ с примерно подходящими параметрами существует много, но не все они приспособлены для целенаправленной ловли на лягушку. Первое, что надо учитывать, выбирая достойные лягушачьи «палки», это тест. Его верхняя граница должна быть от 1,5 oz (42 г) до 2,5 oz (70 г). Еще полезно знать, что есть модели удилищ, обозначаемые буквами «fe» (flipping edition). Их особенность — очень жесткий строй (особенно в нижней части бланка), а это как раз то, что нужно, и они специально предназначены для ловли в экстремальных условиях. Обычно у удилищ серии «fe» рукоятка немного короче, чем у обычной модели, чаще всего она разнесенная, и ею удобно манипулировать.
Разрывная нагрузка плетеных шнуров не должна быть ниже 30 lb, оптимальная — от 40 до 50 lb, потому что рыбу приходится вытаскивать сразу после подсечки, не давая ей слабины и возможности уйти в траву или в коряжник.
Мультипликаторную катушку лучше всего приобретать такую, которая приспособлена для работы с плетеными шнурами. Если у самого рыболова нет опыта, при выборе подобной катушки лучше посоветоваться с продавцом или получить информацию в интернете и подробно про нее все узнать.

У всех рыболовов, впервые начинающих ловить на лягушку, возникают проблемы с подсечкой, и это вполне нормально, особенно если они используют дешевые приманки из некачественной и жесткой «резины».
При ловле на лягушку надо учитывать, что, взяв ее, рыба не сразу чувствует подвох, в отличие от твердых приманок (hard bait), и постепенно пытается ее проглотить, поэтому не стоит торопиться, необходимо выждать 1,5–2 секунды и только потом уверенно подсекать. Время выжидания не всегда одинаково для всех мягких приманок. Оно может варьировать в зависимости от мягкости резины, из которой лягушка изготовлена: чем мягче резина, тем дольше хищник будет удерживать ее во рту. У меня бывали случаи, когда щука не отпускала лягушку до 10 секунд.
Еще один недостаток этих приманок — короткий срок службы. К сожалению, они не вечные и особенно страдают от щучьих зубов. Ловить басса одной или двумя лягушками можно целый сезон, и только потом они начнут «размочаливаться», щука же за один день может привести приманку в негодность, и она начнет пропускать воду.
